When you go through your morning makeup routine, your goal is obviously to improve your appearance. But how is that seemingly harmless, perfectly applied layer of makeup really affecting your skin?

Some people experience allergic reactions to common cosmetic-product ingredients. These reactions can come in two typesirritant contact dermatitis, which is an itching or burning reaction to a product irritating the skin, and allergic contact dermatitis, which is more of a true allergy to specific ingredients that results in swelling, itching, or blisters. Both of these types of reactions are most commonly caused by things like fragrances or preservatives in makeup and other skin care products.

Makeup can also cause acne. You'll usually be fine if you're diligent about removing your makeup at the end of the day and immediately after exercise. However, certain oils in many cosmetics can cause or worsen acne. This type of acne, appropriately called acne cosmetica, is mild, common and characterized by blocked pores and reddened bumps on the chin, cheeks and forehead. Acne cosmetica occurs when oils from your makeup collect in and clog your pores, so thick liquid or cream products are more often culprits than are lighter products like powders.

To help avoid these reactions, look for makeup products that are fragrance- and oil-free, these ingredients are typically the most irritating to the skin. Also, look for products that are labeled hypoallergenicnoncomedogenic and nonacnegenic. If you find that you develop any kind of reaction after you begin using a new makeup product, it's probably a good idea to stop using that particular product. But with a good skin care routine and quality makeup products, you can help prevent negative reactions.

Yes one may start looking older than he or she actually is. All the makeup and moisturizers actually do some damage to your skin and with prolonged use wrinkles and other signs of ageing may be visible. The cosmetic makers are so smart that they then release anti- ageing creams and lotions. These cosmetics then fight the signs of ageing. They are making money and it is us who have to suffer. Be careful while choosing your products.

Cosmetics also bring danger of diseases like cancer and many other chronic ones. Lipstick contains aluminum which may cause long term anemia and even glucose intolerance. Many products contain chemicals like zinc oxide, BHA, barium sulphate etc. are very harmful for your body and may result in many organ failures like that of kidney and liver. Further if swallowed, even by mistake; generally the lip cares, lip balms and lipsticks go in with food and can lead to many respiratory diseases.

Eye shadow, mascara and other forms of eye makeup can harm the eyes. Women who wear lenses may harm their eyes even more because the chemicals present affects the lens material and can result in something very damaging like thinning of eyelashes and eye infections. Mascara can cause blindness as it contains pseudomonas aeruginosa which is a very harmful therapy bacterium. Resistant to heat and cold this bacterium is very difficult to remove from mascara and often pollutes it despite many precaution measures.

Makeup consists of many different chemicals and as basic chemistry teaches us, when two chemicals are mixed together there is often a reaction. Thus, the various products that women put on their face during any one given day may result in a chemical reaction that is less than positive.

Simply put, we have to be more careful about the products that we place upon our skin. It is crucial to understand what each chemical inside of a makeup or skincare product does, and whether or not it will cause a negative reaction when it is mixed with another product.
