4 financial decisions every young professional should make

When you first start working, you don’t earn much. Every young professional knows this. There aren’t many careers where you earn a decent salary at an entry-level position. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be in charge of your finances. In fact, because you earn a less than ideal paycheque, you should be more concerned with your finances than anyone else. Which is why there are four financial decisions every young professional should make.

What you need to know about planning for retirement

One day you will have to retire. You can’t work forever but you already know that. In fact, you may be counting down the years until you can finally walk out of the office for good. You’re looking forward to having the time to focus on your hobbies and interests. You’ll finally have the freedom to travel for months on end and see your family and friends whenever you like. Yes, retirement can be great. But only, of course, if you plan for it properly. So, here’s what you need to know about planning for retirement.

Are you ready to have children?

Many people want to start having children at a young age. They don’t want to be parents later in life because they want to feel active and youthful while their children are growing up. And this is perfectly okay. It’s all about when you’re ready. But are you really ready for parenthood? Here are some questions you need to ask yourself before you consciously take the plunge.

How your health can affect your career

Many people dream of success. They have big goals and know exactly how they’re going to reach them. These people are driven and won’t stop until they’re in the position they want to be. And there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, ambition is often admirable when coupled with hard work. If you’re one of these people, have an excellent work ethic and know everything these is to know about your industry, there are very few things that can stop you from landing your dream job. Except, of course, for your health.

4 things you should know about your health insurance

Health insurance is one of those policies you simply can’t live without. Why? Because you never know what may happen in the future. You can’t be sure you won’t be ill. You won’t be warned about a car accident before it happens. And you’ll never know at the beginning of the day whether you’re going to end up in the emergency room or not. And that’s why it’s important you have the peace of mind that only health insurance can offer you.

4 things to look for when buying a family home

Deciding to buy your first family home is exciting. And, of course, nerve-wracking at the same time. It’s a big purchase – most likely the biggest purchase you’ll ever make – and a huge investment. Which is why you need to be sure you’re buying the best house for you and your family.

4 things you should do when you retire

Retiring is never easy, especially when you love your job. But it is necessary. For one thing, you want to give younger employees the chance to rise through the ranks and you can’t do that when you’re holding onto your position. For another, you’re getting older and the time has come for you to relax and enjoy the freedom that you’ve worked so hard to earn. You deserve the time off.

Types of healthcare you’ll need while pregnant

There are few things more exciting in life than finding out you’re having a baby. You’ve been trying for a while and now you’re finally having a baby. You couldn’t be more thrilled and can’t wait to finally hold your little bundle of joy for the first time. It’s going to be amazing.

Why you should have health insurance as soon as you start working

Receiving your first salary is exciting. For the first time, you’re earning your own money. And there’s nothing quite like the feeling when your first paycheque arrives in your bank account. But, of course, you probably won’t earn as much as you’d like when you first start out. You’re starting out at the bottom and your salary reflects that.

3 things you can’t avoid that could land you in hospital

Many people believe they don’t need hospital insurance in South Africa. They think they’re in good health now, they’ve never been particularly sickly, and illnesses and disease don’t run in their family. So, they think they’ll never need hospitalisation. They think it’s an unnecessary expense because they’ll never use it.

4 types of insurance you should seriously consider

You never know when you’ll need insurance. It’s one of those things you pay for but hope you don’t have to make use of. But many people also believe it’s an expense wasted on a “what if”. They think they won’t need it. Until one day when they do and they have to pay out of pocket.

4 things you need to protect your family against

Your family is the most important thing in your life. No matter how much you enjoy your job, no matter how much you like watching or playing sports, your family always comes first. They’re the people you care most about in the world. You’d do anything for them. Which is why you need to protect them.

Antidepressant side effects

For better or worse, one of the primary treatments of clinical depression is antidepressants and they come with a group of negative side effects. For some people, these side effects will be temporary and will go away on their own. For others, the side effects may not go away and, in fact, may become intolerable.

If side effects seem unendurable, you may be tempted to stop taking an antidepressant or to reduce your dose on your own. Don't do it. Your symptoms may return, and stopping your antidepressant suddenly may cause withdrawal-like symptoms.
